Enamel
Throughout 2026 I have been creating colorful versions of my Crinkled Spiral Earrings using the technique of Torch Enameling; heating each layer of vitreous enamel by hand using a jewelers torch. Vitreous Enamel (also known as porcelain enamel) is a hard glossy and durable material made by fusing powdered glass onto metal at high temperature. The result is durable, long lasting and colorful.
To create this series of enameled earrings, I fused the crinkled spiral to hand sawed copper metal shapes (round, signature form and wiggle form) to created a textural element. This idea is similar to the technique Ronde Bosse (french for in the round), a 3D type of enameling where the crinkled wire is completely or partially enameled. I also used the crinkled spirals to contain different colors as in the technique of Cloissone. I used a paintbrush to blend the transparent enamel colors to give them a watercolor feeling.
I am so excited to share this body of work to date and offer these earrings for sale in time for holiday gifting. Each pair is completely unique and a labor of love. They are all finished with sterling silver hand shaped earwires.
