Spiraling
For the past few months I’ve been leaning in to the Crinkled Spiral motif in the studio. I’ve created earrings, necklaces and earrings using a tighter crinkle made with the tube extruder. Upon reflection I thought I was escaping the stress of upsetting news by retreating to my studio, but the tension seems to have followed me there. Still it is a good outlet for stress and maybe a small protest against policies that harm our well being. Adding gemstones to the jagged spiraling seems like a way to deposit hope in the midst of chaos. I continue to contribute 10% of sales to the National Alliance for Mental Illness (NAMI) to help those who are spiraling and need support.
The series of earrings pictured below are all hand fabricated (basically means made from scratch with silver sheet and wire). Every connection is soldered and the gemstones are hand set by me in my studio. They are all one of a kind.
I am not done with the spiraling forms and I see them everywhere. I am inspired by water circling the drain, ocean currents, flowers in bloom, labyrinths, tidal pools, nebula, winding paths to name a few. Come see the work I’ve been making on September 21st in downtown Summit NJ at the Arts and Cars Festival. Stop by my booth and say hi!
